My mind is on a loop
Revisiting that day
Our drive to Warkworth
Replaying, replaying that excursion through the hills
There was fog – remember?
We could barely make out the rolling vistas
Wrapped in a wet loamy shroud, it was very spring like
We were suspended in water droplets, cocooned behind the windshield
There were lots of lilacs
Remember those?
Pushing through the new green, touches of mauve in a silvery gauze
I got to know you to be sweet, yet brave
Kind of shy – trying your best
I sensed you were eager to be liked. Aren’t we all?
Looking back on this day it is a mobius loop in my mind
It was a day of sharing – finding commonality, friendship
Safe within the car, within the fog, with those lilacs.
Dedicated to my dear late friend: Maie Ilves
