It would be a dull month if Warren were not renovating something, somewhere, so this month he is tackling our downstairs bathroom. It needed doing.
Here is a before picture of the old bathroom. 
This room is also where we keep our laundry washer/dryer.  Gone are the old machines. We have bought lovely front end loaders in the latest metallic shade of Graphite Steel. Very sexy.
Speaking of sexy… check out this new fixture for over the sink. Got to have a touch of bling and sparkle.
The ceiling will also have six pot lights installed.
All last week the boys were hammering and smashing. They broke up the old ceramic floor and carted it off to the dump. The deconstruction revealed lots of rotten wood under the shower. Apparently it was a timely decision to renovate or someone might have fallen through to the basement when showering.
Dust. It is everywhere in spite of the sheets of plastic hung over construction site entrance.
For three days last week I was inconvenienced. Water was shut off. At times I had no electricity. I had to climb upstairs to use the other bathroom… oh the hardship.
New floor, new pot lighting and sexy fixture over sink; new appliances, new shower stall and  lovely new cupboards for towels. It will be beautiful.
Choosing my colours has been a challenge.  I am thinking ahead and wanting all the colours to flow from one room to another. The downstairs bathroom is right off the living room and close to the kitchen. We will be renovating the kitchen later this summer and it will have the same ceramic floor and cabinets as the bath.  My living room is silvery greens and blues.
Standing in the way of my vision is a very big, very prominent stain glass window.
I’m not fond of the colours in this window. They are too strong and bright for my taste, however I don’t want to take the window out. It is one of three stain glass windows in this house and I find them charming. Should I go with my preferences and ignore the window or try to find a compromise?
This is what I’m thinking.  The colours will be soft silvery green floors, beige and gray cupboards, a splash of black and dark gray metallic and …….. Benjamin Moore – “Moroccan Spice 285”
I would use this colour for my walls. As reds go, this is kind of rusty, or natural. Hopefully it will fit in with my silvery green/gray.  Green is a complimentary colour to red.
Here is the whole palette.
Starting from the right is the new cabinet doors. The colour is called “Oyster Gray”.  These cabinets will also be used in the kitchen when we do the reno this summer.  Below is a sample colour of the deep green/gray door. At the bottom are the tiles to be used in my new kitchen counter back drop. On the left is a sample of the ceramic floor tile. Right in the middle is a chip of Moroccan Spice.   What do you think?

I feel for you about the dust. Can’t say I enjoy that part of renovations at all. I bet it will look great when it’s finished. The wall colour looks like it would fit in with the stained glass very well. I am hopeless at visualizing the finished product before it’s actually finished. I always just pick the paint and flooring, etc, cross my fingers, and hope it all comes together in the end. And so far it has – with the exception of the first colour I put on the nursery walls that ended up looking like someone flung baby poo at the walls. 🙂
I keep going back to the window. Would you say the paint chip is almost a cross between the window reds and golds? Will you use this colour on The kitchen walls too? I see more of a putty green calming colour for the bathroom. This way, nothing would be competing with each other ? Just a thought …
Ok, I hear ya. I will take your suggestion under advisement and hold off painting the walls until everything is in place. I fear that if the walls are a putty calming green the whole room will be kind of a dull faded gray except for one screaming mad window. Maybe bright towels will help level out the attention. Thanks for your idea.

I love it, and I think the wall colour you have chosen will tone down the boldness of the window. And I agree, you have to keep the window,it’s great. Good luck and have fun.
I can see that stained glass window being challenging to decorate around, but it’s definitely a special feature. I’d be keeping it too if it was mine. On the paint front, I’m having a hard time visualizing the paint with the window. I really like the contrast of the paint against the tile and cabinets. I think it’s a good option. Is the backsplash tile slate? The colours look fabulous!
Oh dear. That’s two out of three warning me off my paint choice.

I don’t think you should let the stained glass window bother you one bit. I think you should decorate with whatever colors you prefer-don’t try and pic colors to work around the window. Your color palette may not match the stained glass but that is because it is a stained glass window -and it is beautiful on its own as well as in unison with other items that may not fall in the same color palette.
