Our weekend guests were well entertained because this weekend coincided with the Prince Edward County’s ” Maple in the County” festival. It was two days brimming with activities as the merchants of the island open their doors to celebrate spring and all things culinary (infused with maple, of course.)
Our family started out on Saturday morning with a delicious homemade pancake breakfast / grilled sausages at the Fosterholm Farms. Yummmmm. They also were selling maple butter tarts
Next we drove over to the Milford cheese factory to sample some maple flavoured cheese and the Waupoos Winery to pick up several bottles of my favour wine – “Great Legs”. We loaded up with several more bottles at the apple cider factory. In downtown Picton all of the merchants were spruced up and their shops open for the tourist. There were balloons, men on stilts, and square dancing in the street with a live band. A farm & artisan market was running above the bookstore. We shopped until we dropped.
Even though we tried our best there was no way we could cover 20% of the activities happening over this maple-licious weekend. These are some of the items we passed on:
- mini herbed open fact pork tenderloin sandwiches with maple Dijon sauce
- maple flavoured hot dogs at the Buddha Dog (where every bite leads you closer to oneness)
- maple baklava with ice cream
- maple lattes
- maple ribs
- even a maple antioxidant body wrap was being offered at the local spa
